East Mills Held Scoreless vs. Fremont Mills

Malvern, Iowa June 6, 2008.  East Mills was held scoreless in a well played Corner Conference ball game Friday night.  Fremont Mills scored 4 runs to give the Wolverines their second conference loss of the young season.  Levi Helbling pitched a complete game 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, with 13 strike outs in the loss.  Brett Tornquist turned in a stellar performance at short stop fielding 4 sharply hit balls, 2 of which were deep in the hole behind 3rd base to make the backhanded plays.  Helbling and Tornquist each hit doubles offensively.

“This was a game where one team took advantage of their opportunities and the other did not,” said Coach Green.  “We committed some untimely errors which put runners in scoring position.  Fremont Mills took advantage of those opportunities.  I felt like we hit the ball pretty hard but right at them at times.  Levi pitched an outstanding game allowing only 3 hits, and striking out 13.  We played pretty good defensively as well, but in a game like this any error can haunt you and they did tonight.  We’ll keep plugging away at this. I think we are going to have some fun games down the road.”
