Farragut Beats East Mills 3 – 2

Farragut Iowa, June 10, 2008.  The East Mills baseball team traveled to Farragut Tuesday night for a Corner Conference match-up.  East Mills struck first when lead off hitter Alan Alger singled in his first at bat.  Alger stole 2nd base, and then on an attempt to steal 3rd base, a throwing error allowed Alger to score.  Farragut answered in their half of the inning when the Admirals short stop C.Heitshusen was hit by a pitch.  Heitshusen stole 2nd base, and then on an attempt to steal 3rd base, a throwing error allowed Heitshusen to score.  The Wolverines struck next in the top half of the 4th inning when Jake Sneed singled to lead off the inning.  Sneed advanced to second base on a wild pitch.  Shawn Blackman singled to center allowing Sneed to score from 2nd base for East Mills second run.  In the bottom of the 4th inning Admiral right fielder J. Goltz singled.  Goltz scored on 2 East Mills throwing errors to tie the score 2 – 2.  The score remained tied until the bottom of the 7th when, with 1 out, the Admirals 2nd baseman R. Hemeter hit a double to the right center gap.  Wolverine’s relief pitcher Jake Sneed struck out the next batter for the 2nd out of the inning.  Farragut center fielder J. Wood hit a towering fly ball, to left field, which was lost in the lights, allowing the ball to fall in for a single.  Hemeter scored the winning run for Farragut.

“Errors continue to haunt us,” said Wolverines Coach Marty Green.  “I told the kids that we have to start stringing some hits together and score runs or we need to play error free ball.  We can’t continue to give up easy runs to our opponents and not score or it is going to be a long season.  On a positive note I think the kids are upbeat and are working hard to improve both offensively and defensively.  We have had some productive practices lately, so I am hoping the ball starts falling in our favor in the near future.”
